THE ARROW AND THE SONG

The Arrow and the Song
by
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I shot an arrow into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For, so swiftly it flew, the sight
Could not follow it in its flight.

I breathed a song into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For who has sight so keen and strong,
That it can follow the flight of song?

Long, long afterward, in an oak
I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end,
I found again in the heart of a friend

Salam once more, dear friends!
 Yes, Chef Baini is back again this time with another homeclass on pastry baskets. Only this time it is a personal class with Chef Baini's dear friend (some people would say old crony!) Ms. Cheah Guat Im. Since good ol' Cheah is one of Chef Baini's long-time friends, CB thought it would be a good idea to begin today's blog with a recital of a poem about friendship.

 As you can see, the simple quatrains sing a delightful sonnet that beautifully describes the immeasurable and enduring qualities of friendship. Both the Arrow and the Song, though long separated from the poet, were rediscovered intact, embedded in the mighty oak tree and unchanged in it's entirety, in the heart (the oak tee is a metaphor for a friend).

So it is with Chef Baini and Cheah, whom parted ways when they got married to their respective spouses, were reunited and reconnected seamlessly. Thus today, Cheah dropped in to learn about pastry baskets...

Like we need say more! She took to pastry basket weaving like a duck to water! And have a look at her fruit tarts!

These lovely tarts fill the basket.....before they fill the someone's stomach! See how they look like together...

By itself, here is a close-up of Cheah's Magnum Opus (Latin for great work)....

Surprise! Cheah did a Kebaya Cake as well! And just as well, too! Check it out!

Cheah's baking and cake decorating skills are getting on splendidly! The day may come when she won't need Chef Baini to teach her anything else. When that day arrives, Chef Baini knows deep in her heart that her dear friend will continue to be just that... a dear friend.

In closing, Chef Baini reiterates the last stanza of the poem... It says it all.

Cheah and Milla...the 3 year old 'terror'!

Long, long afterward, in an oak
I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end,
I found again in the heart of a friend

With love always,

Chef Baini.

Post Scriptum (in case you've ever wondered what P.S. stood for)

You may have noticed that today's blog post title did not mention the subject of today's blog. Instead it headed the title of the poem. Chef Baini though it would be an interesting twist if she did not overtly put the subject as the title and let you discover as you read on in the blog. Hope you enjoyed today's blog! ;)
