CHOCOLATE MODELLING HOMECLASS on 22nd May, 2011

Today's homeclass was on one of Chef Baini's favourite subjects......CHOCOLATE! Yes, today Chef Baini had 3 friends over for a session on chocolate modelling. They came to learn the rudiments of chocolate decoration which is the same as if you were making a wedding cake, but instead of buttercream or fondant, the medium is chocolate. Sunday was also a very hot day and that made the class a little more challenging as extra care had to be taken to make sure the chocolate, once modelled into roses and leaves and what-have-you won't melt under the heat! Yes, the operative word is melt, not wilt!

So without further ado, lets meet the three ladies who came to spend their Sunday with Chef Baini....up above is Lyn......

This fair damsel is Gee; she came all the way for Kuantan to learn with Chef Baini today......

And last but not least, is Shook Ling....If you read the blog post on yesterday's class (on the Introduction to Fondant Homeclass), you may have noticed Shook Ling.....Yes, she spent the weekend with Chef Baini, although she is a bit shy and would rather not have her picture be taken!

Most of you would have read Chef Baini's promo on this class...its on the blog page, on the right hand side. In that write-up, Chef Baini mentioned the zany lead character Willy Wonka from the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Most of you would have seen it, it was an international smash hit! For those of you who are literature buffs, Chef Baini need not mention  that the movie was based on Roald Dahl's children's classic book by the same name.

Of course, the lead character Willy Wonka was played to unforgettable heights by the incomparable Johnny Depp, probably one of Hollywood's most gifted actors!

BUT.....

Chef Baini would wager all her (Chocolate) guilders that very few of you would know that the recent movie starring Johnny Depp is in fact, a remake! The original Charlie and the Chocolate factory was released in 1971, and the lead character of Willy Wonka was played by Gene Wilder, one of the funniest actors of his generation! Here is Gene Wilder in the starring role below....

Gene Wilder's most famous movies (and the most hilarious) are SILVER STREAK (1976) and STIR CRAZY (1980) where he teamed up with his equally famous comedian partner, the late Richard Pryor. Notice the river of chocolate in the background. Below is the original movie poster.....

So for posterity's sake, here is a picture of they Wonka of yesteryear and the Wonka of just a few years ago.......

And while we're at it, above is the Charlie of the recent movie, and below is the original Charlie!

Finally, here is a picture of the original movie's cast!

Chef Baini hopes you've enjoyed the little sideline from today's blog! Here at NORBAINI CAKES blogspot, we try to make each post as interesting and original to keep all our friends interested to continue reading this blog!

So lets return to the class, shall we, to see what the three  ladies produced at the end of the day....

Most you you who have read the previous blogs on the chocolate modelling homeclass will be familiar with the cake, its design, effects and rendition. So Chef Baini won't dull you again by repeating the same thing! All Chef Baini wanted to say is: WELL DONE LADIES! GREAT JOB TODAY!

Well, that's all for today's blog post, dear friends! Chef Baini hopes that you enjoyed reading it as much as you would have eating chocolate!
