TWO-TIERED WEDDING CAKE HOMECLASS 24th NOVEMBER 2010

Salam again, dear friends!

Once again, welcome to Norbaini Cakes! Chef Baini apologises for bring so tardy in the upkeep of this blog, but recently Chef Baini has been extraordinarily busy with so many unforeseen things since the school holidays began. Its not as if the Norbaini Cakes blogspot was closed for renovation or something!

With so many friends waiting, Chef Baini has to keep all her friends up-to-date with what's happening to Norbaini Cakes! Chef Baini pledges to do better, and she will update this blog as often as she can. So, today's blog is on:

Uh-huh, with the school holidays on, its not just the rainy season; its the marrying season too.Chef Baini won't be surprised of many of you have been invited to at least 1 wedding within this 7 week holiday period. Thus it should come as no surprise that there have been many request for wedding cake classes and so today's class features the two-tiered wedding cake.

Naturally, there's a maverick now and then who prefers to buck the trend and she went ahead and did a three tiered wedding cake! Who is it? Well, read on and find out! We will begin at the end today and show all of you the process in reverse. Below is a picture of 1 of today's student's work.

And here is the step-by-step pictures of the process that made the cake....

As usual, here are some pictures of today's students hard at work.....

Earlier we showed you a picture of a 3 tiered cake. Made by whom? None other than Kak Mia....

Wedding cakes have to be a little grand, because well, its a grand red-letter day for the blessed couple; having the cake tall makes it easier to be seen by the wedding guests who have so sit way in the back! Notice the simple colours Kak Mia used. The white makes the drapery and flowers stand out very well.

This one above is made by Ms. Cheah Guat Im from Jitra, Kedah. Yes, she came all the way down here to attend today's class....

Now Kak Ros made this one (above); she opted for a light blue accent (in the form of flowers) for her cake...

AND....

Today's class featured a very special guest: Ms. Melyza who was once Ariff's  teacher and now Jannah's teacher at school. Jannah was a little nervous at having one of her teachers attending today's class, but she got over it quickly and assited Ms. Melyza in making the flowers...

Ms. Melyza chose red roses to make her cake more resplendent. She took this class so she could make a cake that she intended as a gift for her childhood chum who is getting married next week.

She professed this to be quite an experience for her, for now she understood why wedding cakes cost more than the average cake! Its the time and care that went in to make a cake that is worthy for newly-weds! Maybe next time she will make one for herself! Chef Baini and family will definitely look forward to that day!

All too quickly we've come to the end of today's blog post. Thank you for dropping by, dear friends. Take care and we will see you again very soon!

Home Class 2 tier Buttercream Wedding Cake 05/06/2010

Salam friends!

Today's class was on buttercream cakes, two tiered, mind you!

The Babams commented that the class was exceptionally long, more than usual.
It was a record, until 11pm!

Well Babams, buttercream is a lot more tricky than fondant!
It takes a lot more time to do and one must be exceptionally careful!
Now you know!

Have a look at what the students today produced:

Hawa
Both Hawa and Kak Zakiah opted for the classic two-tiered cake....
with larger flowers on the top cake!

Kak Zakiah
Kak Zakiah prefered less flowers and fewer highlights,
electing to emphasize the classic white cake look.....

Azlina
Azlina produced two cakes of contrasting colours....
She didn't want to  be 'predictable' like most cakes would be!

Kak Ana
the same with Kak Ana...She decided to do two cakes instead!

Kak Shikin
Of course, if there's a leader to start the ball rolling, someone must follow!
Kak Shikin decided to do two cakes instead of Two-Tiered cakes!
Ah well....whatever!

Chef Baini doesn't mind her students improvising....
Anything that encourage the creativity of her students, she's all for!
That's all for today, friends!

Love,
Chef Baini.

P.S. Chef Baini would like to thank all the husbands of her students for their support.
Their encouragement can only spur the students to greater heights!
Hope all the husbands and dads out there had a great Father's Day!

Home Class 2 tier Wedding And My Little Girl's Dream 16/04/2010

Salam, Friends!

Today's class is a double header; Chef Baini believes it's the first of such a class that she had conducted. Imagine! Teaching two different kinds of cakes in the same day! Well, Chef Baini supposes that there is indeed a first time for everything; teaching cakes is no exception.

Chef Baini was once a little girl and though that was a long, long time ago, there is still some of that little girl tucked deep inside the adult Chef Baini!

Until today Chef Baini gets a little tingly when someone orders a Barbie Cake, for every little girl dreams of being a Barbie Princess!

Now as far as visual impacts go, the Barbie Cake give a very strong visual impact because of the doll that stands the cake itself. Plus the long Bell Skirt that spreads nicely on to the base cake leads our eyes evenly throughout the cake.

Come to think of it, these Barbie Cakes are only good for birthdays, wouldn't you agree? Honestly, Chef Baini cannot imagine any other purpose that it may be suited for.

The other cake that was taught today was the Two-Tier cake. Chef Baini hopes that you will see the immediate similarities between the two types: That's right!

BOTH CAKES ARE VERTICAL IN FORM, MAKING IT
VERY EASY TO SPOT FROM AN EXTENDED DISTANCE.

The upright character of these cakes make it ideal for any grand occasion, like for birthdays and weddings, obviously. The object/s of celebration ( the birthday girl or bride and groom ) can feel that extra 'oomph' on their special day.

The Two Tier Cake can be used for anniversaries too. There's no hard and fast rule, just a time honoured tradition that is continued generation after generation! On the occasion of an anniversary, a two tier cake very much like a wedding cake serves a strong reaffirmation of the wedding vows.

So lets take a look on the processess that lead to the cakes......

Shaping the skirt of gown of Barbie.... Chef Baini did mention that we cake designers have to be sculptors too, except our medium is edible!

Here comes the fabric...(fondant sheet),,,,

......that we fold into a gown.....

...and the base is quite straightforward.....its the easy part....

Well, no one ever said that you can't have a Two Tier Barbie Cake!
This is the fun part of what we do....we can combine things or invent new ones!

That's all for now, friends, Chef Baini hopes you enjoyed reading her blog!
Until next time, take care! And thanks for dropping in!

Love, Chef Baini.
